Our International Communities

Welcome!

Rich in Diversity

Young Indian WomanOnce the center of America's Industrial Age, the Pittsburgh region has transformed itself into a modern, post-industrial society on the cutting edge of the Information Age now a center for information technology, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and finance and insurance.

Two Smiling ChildrenIn the Information Age just as in the Industrial Age the Pittsburgh region's growth has been fueled by immigrants who brought their talent, skill, energy, and diverse cultures to our doorsteps. You can see this heritage in Pittsburgh's many neighborhoods, places of worship, and national festivals.

Visitors to the University of Pittsburgh's Nationality Rooms also get a glimpse of this wondrous variety in the way each community has portrayed its character.

Global Focus
Year of Europe: Germany
The Global Focus program at Chatham University engages our students in the purposeful study of peoples and civilizations. Our community of scholars promotes the acquisition of sustainable global competencies through the critical and holistic exploration of one specific country or region of the globe every year. The program concurrently reinforces crosscultural ties and internationalization initiatives in the greater Pittsburgh area and beyond.

Last year's focus... the year of the Far East: China
This year's focus... the Year of Europe: Germany

Next year’s focus... the year of Brazil
