Catalyst Connection is a non-profit regional economic development organization. The Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, an affiliate of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, conducts free events and programs to help area companies learn more about global business opportunities.

Major events include meetings in September with Pennsylvania’s 21 trade representatives from around the world, as well as other programs on export certification
and documentation, finance and letters of credit.

The PRA offers a wide range of services year-round, including market research and intelligence, foreign company background checks, competitive analysis and pricing evaluation, identification of potential partnership opportunities, qualification of sales leads and in-country appointment scheduling and logistics assistance.

In Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance serves as the official Pennsylvania Regional Export Network gateway for area. The Small Business Development Centers at Duquesne and Saint Vincent are part of a statewide network of centers offering a wide range of programs designed to assist small- and medium-sized companies expand global business activities. As the Local Development District and Economic Development District for southwestern Pennsylvania as designated by the U.S. Appalachian Regional Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission establishes regional economic development priorities and provides a wide range of services to the region, including export development, market research, event preparation, business etiquette and export documentation.


A branch of the U.S. Commerce Department, the U.S. Commercial Service offers a wide range of services to area businesses, including export counseling, international partner identification, information resources and trade finance counseling.

Year of Europe: Germany
The Global Focus program at Chatham University engages our students in the purposeful study of peoples and civilizations. Our community of scholars promotes the acquisition of sustainable global competencies through the critical and holistic exploration of one specific country or region of the globe every year. The program concurrently reinforces crosscultural ties and internationalization initiatives in the greater Pittsburgh area and beyond.
