GlobalPittsburgh First Thursdays is a monthly night of networking and socializing where GlobalPittsburgh members and friends welcome State Department guests from abroad, international students and expatriates from all over the world. It's the easiest way to experience the world without leaving Pittsburgh

In July, we will have special guests from Saudi Arabia and China. The 12 students from Saudi Arabia will be a part of Saudi Young Leaders Exchange Program (SYLEP), a federal award to Legacy International to support English-speaking undergraduate students from Saudi Arabia in a three-week US-based exchange program in the summer 2019 that explores the themes of leadership, healthy lifestyles, community engagement to promote peace and prosperity, respect for diversity, and the tolerance of religious belief. GlobalPittsburgh has been partnering with Legacy International since 2014 to successfully implement the cultural immersion component of this program in Pittsburgh.

The 11 students from China will be a part of the US Law and Legal English Program, a partnership between the University of Pittsburgh Center for International Legal Education and the English Language Institute. Similar to last year, GlobalPittsburgh will arrange dinners with American host families for these students.

Partner in July is Open Field (formerly known as Cameroon Football Development Program) whose sport-based programming creates a safe space for youth to play and learn, with an educational topic connected to every practice and game. Youth participants take on leadership roles as coaches, referees, and mentors to their peers. Youth emerge from our programs with new skills to succeed in school and in the workforce.

For the July event, we also partnered with The American Middle East Institute (AMEI), an independent, non-profit organization, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA that is focused on building the business, educational and cultural ties between the United States and the countries of the Middle East.

Come practice language skills, meet others working in the international realm, make new friends who share global interests, and learn firsthand about what is happening outside the U.S. For newcomers, it's a great way to connect with others from their country or with people from other countries who are sharing the same experience of being far from home. Everyone is welcome!
