
GlobalPittsburgh hosted a delegation from Estonia for the International Visitor Leadership Program focused on U.S. Approaches to Develop AI to Accelerate Scientific Discovery from September 17–22, 2026. The delegation brought together researchers, university leaders, AI specialists, and representatives from government and industry working across artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, geoinformatics, cybersecurity, and digital innovation.
Participants attended the AI Horizons Pittsburgh Summit, exploring developments in physical AI, robotics, intelligent manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and the growing role of AI across industry and scientific research.
At West Virginia University, the group discussed how AI, machine learning, data science, and mathematical methods are being applied to scientific research, as well as how universities build interdisciplinary partnerships and help translate research into practical applications and commercialization.
Back in Pittsburgh, delegates met with the Pittsburgh Quantum Institute to examine quantum information science, high-performance computing, and their connections to AI-driven scientific discovery. A visit with the Pittsburgh Technology Council focused on regional innovation, technology commercialization, workforce development, and public-private partnerships supporting emerging technologies. The program also included home hospitality and opportunities to experience Pittsburgh’s cultural and innovation ecosystem.
