GlobalPittsburgh hosted an inter-regional delegation for the International Visitor Leadership Program focused on U.S. Energy Policy: Security, Independence, and Innovation for the Indo-Pacific from July 16–21, 2026. The group brought together government officials, energy professionals, researchers, and policy leaders from across the Indo-Pacific to explore U.S. approaches to energy security, innovation, infrastructure, and regional economic resilience.
Participants engaged with the National Energy Technology Laboratory and Idea Foundry to learn about federal energy research, public-private partnerships, and Pittsburgh’s transformation from an industrial center into a hub for energy innovation and advanced technology. At the University of Pittsburgh, delegates met with the Energy GRID Institute and Cyber Energy Center to discuss grid modernization, energy storage, electrification, and cybersecurity for critical energy infrastructure.
The delegation also visited the Energy Innovation Center and Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation to explore infrastructure investment, industrial redevelopment, and regional economic development. A meeting with Farm to Flame Energy highlighted the development and commercialization of biomass-based energy systems and their potential to support domestic energy production and rural economic growth.
Beyond the professional program, delegates toured the University of Pittsburgh’s Nationality Rooms, participated in home hospitality with GlobalPittsburgh volunteer families, and had time to explore Pittsburgh’s museums, neighborhoods, riverfronts, and cultural attractions. The program combined professional exchange with cultural experiences while building connections around energy security, innovation, and sustainable development.
