GlobalPittsburgh had the privilege of hosting five fellows from the Uzbekistan Business Leaders (UBL) program, a U.S. Department of State professional exchange for emerging entrepreneurs and business leaders from Uzbekistan. From June 5–29, the fellows completed professional placements with Pittsburgh-area organizations, gaining hands-on experience while sharing their own expertise and perspectives.

Throughout their fellowships, participants explored areas including entrepreneurship, sustainable business, education, innovation, leadership, and community engagement. The program is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of U.S. business practices, expand their professional networks, and build long-term connections between professionals and organizations in Uzbekistan and the United States.

The fellows were hosted by Idea Foundry, the Center for Sustainable Business, Carlow University’s Center for Teaching, Research, and Learning, and Remake Learning. Through their placements, they contributed to ongoing projects, exchanged ideas with local professionals, and gained practical insight into how Pittsburgh organizations support innovation, education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth.

Beyond their professional experiences, the fellows also had opportunities to experience Pittsburgh’s culture and community, making the program a combination of professional development, cultural exchange, and relationship-building.
