GlobalPittsburgh hosted a regional African delegation for the International Visitor Leadership Program focused on AI and Technology in the Media Landscape from August 13–18, 2026. The group included journalists, editors, and media professionals from Algeria, the Central African Republic, Mauritius, and Tunisia who explored how artificial intelligence, digital technology, and changing media habits are affecting journalism and public trust.
Participants met with Duquesne University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law to discuss the First Amendment, freedom of expression, and legal protections for the press in the United States. At Fox Chapel Area High School, delegates explored digital citizenship education, media literacy, online misinformation, and strategies for helping young people evaluate information and navigate digital platforms responsibly.
The delegation also met with the Pittsburgh Media Partnership to discuss the challenges facing local journalism, community engagement, and strategies for sustaining trustworthy and independent news organizations. At Carnegie Mellon University’s Block Center for Technology and Society, participants examined the broader societal impact of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, including research and public engagement around responsible technology use.
Beyond the professional program, delegates participated in home hospitality with GlobalPittsburgh volunteers and joined the Diplomacy Begins at Dinner networking event with international visitors and members of the Pittsburgh community. The program combined professional exchange with cultural experiences while building connections around media literacy, press freedom, AI, and the future of journalism.
